Green Pages
How we try and live a more sustainable life.
Here at Bedknobs we try to go that extra mile to ensure that what we do has minimum impact on the environment and so help prolong the sustainable future of our Planet. Most of what we do is not rocket science but simple common sense and the question we always ask ourselves when about to do anything for the first time is "what is the impact?" and "might there be a better way to do it?"
So, should you book a break at Bedknobs – we hope you’ll enjoy a green and pleasant stay and you never know, perhaps you can teach us a thing or two - like Julia and Malcolm in 2008 who introduced us to Eco Balls for 'chemical free' washing. We - and our washing - haven’t look back since!
Here in a nutshell, are a few things we have done at Bedknobs in pursuit of sustainable living and best business practice:
- Over 15 years, have carried out a programme of sustainable restoration to elderly Victorian house that includes
- Insulating roof space
- Draught-proofing Victorian sash windows
- Installation of energy-efficient boiler with thermostatic rad valves
- Decorated using mostly chemical-free products
- Laid wool carpets and Ecolay underlay
- Used local services and Suppliers
- Used local produce and local Shops
- Support Fair-trade and boycott Nestle products
- Repair, Reduce, Re-use and Recycle
- Use cleaning products free from synthetic chemicals, supplied in bulk and in concentrated form and wonderful Enjo™ cleaning cloths
- Use detergent-free wash balls
- Use an eco-laundry that employs an ozone cleaning technique
Here are a few of the things that have happened along the way of which we are justly proud.
